CM hails Punjab’s progress at international seminar


After the success of the International Seminar on Business Opportunities in Punjab (ISBOP) 2015, Government of the Punjab organised a successful two day seminar on 22nd and 23rd May, 2017 at Pearl Continental Hotel, Lahore.

International Seminar on Business Opportunities in Punjab 2017 highlights the untapped opportunities in various sectors such as agriculture, energy, infrastructure development, coal, livestock, textiles, pharmaceuticals and information technology with the primary objective of attracting investments, both foreign and domestic. A mega exhibition featuring representations from various sectors also ran on the side-lines of the seminar at Expo Centre, Lahore, on May 23-24, 2017.

The seminar started with the national anthem and recitation from the Holy Quran. Opening remarks were made by Honorable Minister of Finance Dr. Aisha Ghaus Pasha, Government of the Punjab. Documentary on Investment Opportunities in Punjab by Punjab Board of Investment and Trade was showcased for the distinguished participants while President LCCI Abdul Basit shared his valued views about business climate in Punjab.

Chairman Planning and Development gave a presentation. Chinese Consul General to Pakistan and Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan gave valuable remarks regarding the event as well as emphasized that Punjab has introduced far reaching regulatory reforms and built vibrant infrastructure to cater to the needs of rapidly growing economic process

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif gave the key note speech in which he stated that this seminar is one of the prevalent international seminars held in Pakistan that will yield concrete results. He said that development is essential for progression and incorporation of new practices and modern global trends that will put Pakistan well on its way towards economic stability and prosperity.

The international seminar was attended by the Top leadership of prominent international companies from China, Turkey, UK, USA, Netherlands, Malaysia, Italy, Australia and Germany. Top officials from the federal and provincial governments, Major investment houses, global entrepreneurs, private equity funds, policy-makers, financial institutions, chambers, and decision-makers from all over the world attended the event.

Heads and chief executive officers of different companies attending the seminar, held separate meetings with Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where they expressed the willingness to invest in various development projects of the province.

They shared views with the CM on various aspects of investment they intend to make in energy, infrastructure, transport, healthcare, low-income housing schemes and industry etc. They were really impressed by the Punjab government’s initiatives taken to create investment friendly environment in the province and prospects of huge profit.

The investors belonging to different countries including China, France, Turkey, Germany, Japan, South Korea and the UK consented for investment in different sectors. They also congratulated Shehbaz Sharif for successful holding of international seminar on business opportunities and said that Shehbaz Speed is talk of the town. “The Shehbaz Speed has paved the way for speedy economic development in Pakistan by fast-track completion of development projects”

They added that speedy development activities in the Punjab have motivated them to invest here.

While commending the pro-business policies of the CM, they said that Shehbaz Sharif has made Punjab a leading province where conducive atmosphere is provided to the investors. “We have witnessed the Punjab Speed with our own eyes and the credit of transparency goes to your untiring leadership,” they said.

“As a result of your effective steps, the Punjab has emerged as a haven for investors. We are ready to invest in both CPEC and non-CPEC projects,” they told the CM.

Welcoming the investors, CM Shehbaz said that Punjab has emerged as the best province for investment where large scope for foreign investment in different sectors including energy, infrastructure, industrial zones, provision of parking facilities and solid waste management existed. Taking advantage from the vast opportunities of foreign investment in Pakistan especially in the Punjab, quite a number of Chinese and Turkish companies are working with the Punjab government, he told the business delegates. He invited them to freely invest in Punjab where they will be provided with every facility. He asked them to improve the service delivery mechanism with their investment and earn profits. He also assured them that the Punjab government would provide every facility to the investors.

Result oriented and productive B2B, G2B as well as sectoral breakout sessions were also arranged alongside the Seminar. The process of such negotiations between the concerned parties started forthwith so that parties are able to reach agreement(s) during the course of the Seminar. A number of MOU’s were signed among different organizations with Minister of Industries, Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Mines & Minerals in chair. The day-1 concluded with the Dinner & Cultural Event hosted by Chief Minister Punjab.
